Building Montana for the next generation!

Elect: Mark Wicks for Montana Senate District 14

We didn’t build the best state in the union to lose it now!

I'm excited to share with you my run for Senate District 14. The Hi-line is so important to the state economic health, but it is often overlooked because of the sparse population. They think we are un-important because we are so far from the growing valleys and Helena, but they are so wrong! We produce so much in Northern Montana, wheat that feeds the world, beef that feeds America and now we are a leader in pulse crops. We can't forget the BNSF Railroad that is the backbone of our transportation networks, or MSU Northern that turns out a steady supply of technicians, nurses and teachers. We have all this and so much more, and I intend to remind the rest of the state that we are here and won't be ignored! I'm running for Montana Senate District 14 to represent the Hi-line from Glasgow to Chester. Committed to fully representing Valley, Phillips, Liberty, Hill and Blaine counties in Helena.

I am a third generation Montanan. Born and raised on the family homestead (est. 1913) north of Inverness, MT, the youngest of ten children. I attended grade school in Joplin and Inverness, and went on to graduate high school from Blue Sky High in Rudyard, MT. I then attended MSU Bozeman where I studied History, Technology Education, and was enrolled in ARMY ROTC. In 1991 I joined the Army Reserve. I received an associate's degree in aviation maintenance technology from Lane Community College and hold certificates in Power plant and Airframe Maintenance. I spent one semester studying abroad in Lulea, Sweden. While there, I toured 16 countries and saw firsthand the effects of communism and socialism on society. In 2012, I published the book “Wrath of the Dodo”, a well-received work of Montana fiction.

In 1991, I returned home to take over the family farm. I have ranched and farmed since. In 1996, I married my wife Beth, and we have celebrated 30 years together. We have three adult children, one that is a Freshman at North Star high, and one grandchild. Our oldest, Hunter, chose to farm and is the fourth generation to farm our land. Jewel, our oldest daughter, graduated with honors from the University of Montana and served as an officer in the Navy. She now works for the Vermont Department of Children's Services while finishing her master's in psychology. Choral, our third child, is an honor student at MSU Northern and graduates this spring. She is married to Daeson Salveson of Saco. Liberty, our fourth child, enjoys volleyball and wrestling. We currently live in Inverness. I've delivered the mail going on 14 years. Over the years I’ve had many jobs: roughneck, census taker, undertakers' assistant, mailman, mechanic, business owner, entrepreneur, contractor and custom agricultural worker, making me a jack of all trades. I have even designed (for better or worse!) all my own campaign literature and logos. All my experiences have given me a well-rounded life experience that will be a great asset to the people of Senate District 14. My free time is filled up with volleyball games, writing, metal detecting and working in the shop. I can’t think of a better thing than representing the Hi-Line and its rural way of life. I’m excited to go to work as your next representative!
